Mulattos vs. Dark SkinsPart 14 of 50 By G. Simon

By G. Simon

--Part 14 of 50--

Historically speaking do the Dark-Skin Haitians have genuine suspicion about the loyalty of the Haitian mulattos for Haiti? The following conversation between a Haitian mulatto and a dark skin one will help both sides to understand each other better.

Dark-Skin:

"Rigaud a mulatto was a traitor.

He wanted to re-establish slavery in Haiti".

Mulatto:

"What about Petion also a mulatto who teamed up with Dessalines in 1802 to defeat the French because both Dessalines and Petion shared the same sentiment, which was the love for liberty and independence".

Dark-Skin:

It's possible that You and I have the same great-great grand-mother."

Mulatto:

"Explain to me how?"

Dark-Skin:

"Suppose that my black great-great-grand-mother was raped by your white slave owner great-great-grand-father; Therefore, You are the descendant of a negro lady and a white male oppressor.

You are a mulatto.

I am the descendant of the same negro lady and a negro male.

I am a black Haitian.

Mulatto:

"You seem to be obsessed with color.

Don't you know that People discriminate from white to mulatto, from mulatto to less dark, from grimeau to albinos, from dark to very dark".

But Haitian Mulattos or dark skin Haitians are Haitians."

Dark Skin:

In Haiti there are light skinned people who are not the genuine mulattos, but claim they are. Who are these families, like Apaid, Bennett, Mourra, Coles, Baker, etc...

these people are not animated by the same sentiment of Alexandre Petion.

Mulatto:

Some of them are Syrian, Moroccan, people of Arab descent, etc...

; however, there are Haitian mulattos who care for the well being Haiti.

Dark Skin:

If we share genetic/DNA characteristics why can't we get along? Do mulattos honor their white heritage more than the negro one. If so, I think it's a mistake because the white side of the mulatto dishonored his/her great-great-grand-mother by raping her. Am I right?

Mulatto:

I disagree.

I have no choice.

I am trapped in a body that I can not undo.

All I know I am Haitian like you.
~=To be continued...

Coming next (Part 15 of 50) Black Haitians and Haitian Mulattos who marry whites.

Thank you
