CORE Announces Endorsement of Dr. Joel Borgella For next President of Haiti

Roy Innis Supports Borgellas Plan to Enfranchise Haiti’s Rural Poor

Endorsement Ceremony/Press Conference: Location: CORE, 817 Broadway, 3 Fl.
1pm, November 21, 2005 New York, NY 10003 (near Union Square)

Roy Innis, National Chairman of The Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) is endorsing the OLAHH (Organization for the Advancement of Haiti and of Haitians) and Dr. Joel Borgella to lead the next Haitian government for the next five years.

Mr.

Innis is endorsing Borgella for president of Haiti because he is committed to building a country that is hospitable to all, the rich, the poor, the middle class and to Haitians in the Diaspora.

According to Mr. Innis, "it is time that the political leadership that came from the Haitian Diaspora create a culture that is hospitable to democracy, inclusive and open.
Haiti’s history of struggling for democracy and independence is remarkable.

Their struggle against the French in the 1800’s influenced movements for civil rights and human rights throughout the world, including Simon Bolivar in South America, American abolitionist and civil rights pioneers.

It is tragic that after 200 years of independence, the majority of its population, in particular rural Haiti, languishes trapped in a de-facto apartheid system.

The strength Dr. Borgella’s vision for Haiti is that it focuses on rebuilding the country’s infrastructure by making the rural poor viable participants in the county’s economy.

His vision is clear and decisive.

An affirmative action program for marginalized populations in the rural sectors and the small towns, the instituting of urban renewal programs for the 565 rural counties and 165 small towns, massive and reconstruction projects of the infrastructure for roads, electricity, communication, port and airports are all part of Borgella’s plan. According to Dr.Borgella, in a statement to Ms. Karen Hughes the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Policy, "a society cannot be peaceful and harmonious if three quarters of its members are shackled into the countryside or the slums with no running water, no schools, no roads, no electricity and no input from its government."

Roy Innis commends Dr. Joel Borgella for his commitment to nurturing a culture of service, where institutions such as the police, health and education provide services free of corruption, inefficiency and unaccountability.

The endorsement/press conference ceremony will be on Monday, November 21st at 1.00 pm at the CORE office located at 817 Broadway 3 Fl., NYC.
