Wycleff Jean was celebrating Rene Preval's election as Haiti's president yesterday.
But the Fugees singer has no illusions about the task ahead.
Wednesday night, as officials weighed whether to hold a runoff vote, Wycleff had warned us, "They have to let Preval be president.
If the people don't get this, we're going to have a civil war on our hands".
Lat week, Wyclef flew from L.A. to Port-au-Prince, arriving at the polls an hour before they close.
Since then, Telemax a Haitian TV station he owns, has been aggressively reporting on alleged election fraud.
"We foound 100, 000 ballots that were burned", he said. Election monitors "said we should do it again.
The Haitians people said, "You want to rig these elections?
No way"
With his cadidate victorious, Wyclef says, "Preval says, "Preval is an honest man. Let's give him a fair chance.
Wyclef plans to return to his himeland soon to play at Carnival.
And having recently shown the country to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, he's determined to bring more friends there.
He's even planning a resort.
"We have to kill that idea that Haiti is the most dangerous place on earth," he says. "I Promise that I will make you all want to go there"
