O.L.A.H.H. Organization for the Advancement of Haiti and of Haitians FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Susan Brie Ceville OLAHH (UNITED STATES) (T) 516.204.5124 (F) 516.684.9390 [email protected] www.olahh.org Presidential Candidate, Dr. Joel Borgella releases the OLAHH Plan of Government to the public. The founder of the first Haitian Radio Station in America and a new Political Party in Haiti, OLAHH, Dr. Borgella officially declares his Presidential Candidacy. Port-Au-Prince, Haiti- October 12, 2005- Dr. Joel Borgella, Founder of Radio Tropicale International and a very well-respected OB-GYN, is running for President of the Republic of Haiti under the slogan: Lets create a Haiti hospitable to all; the poor, the rich as well as the Diaspora. The Year 2004, albeit a Jubilee Year, was an annum miserabilis for the Republic of Haiti. A violent transfer of government in February was followed by a deadly mudslide in May, hurricanes and floods in September, killing some five thousand people. The Year 2005 is a watershed year for Haiti. The Haitian people will go to the polls not only to elect a new President but also to elect legislators, senators, mayors and rural county leaders on November 20th and December 15th 2005 (tentative). The Republic of Haiti can continue on the path of squalor that has been its lot for the past fifty years or it can stride forward into a bold new direction. Creating a new culture and a new policy that is welcoming to all, in particular to those who have been marginalized in the rural regions and in the urban slums. Dr. Joel Borgella, a medical doctor by profession, has served his community for the past 16 years in many ways. Notably by founding, funding and running Radio Tropicale in New York, the Haitian communities premiere radio station linking the two million Haitians in the Diaspora with the eight million citizens in Haiti. He has also built and sponsored schools and a hospital for the poor in Haiti. OLAHH also distributed medical supplies as well as food and other goods, after Hurricane Jeanne ravaged several towns in Haiti last year. (For footage, go to www.olahh.org ) Dr. Borgella is now running for President of the Republic to fulfill the passionate call to action of the late Jean Paul II, who said on his visit to Haiti some twenty years ago, Things must change in this country. He has also endorsed the wake-up call of U. S. Assistant Secretary of State Karen P. Hughes, who stressed what should be evident to all men and women of conscience: A society cannot be peaceful and harmonious if three quarters of its members are shackled into the countryside or the slums with no running water, no school, no roads, no electricity and no input from its government. -more- Presidential Candidate, Dr. Joel Borgella releases the OLAHH Plan Dr. Joel Borgella is running on an agenda designed to transform Haiti into a desirable home for all Haitians. In order to do so, he intends to implement a number of initiatives that will tangibly improve the lives of his countrys citizens. As President, Dr. Joel Borgella will first address the needs of the rural regions of Haiti. The OLAHH government will carry out the projects outlined in the Plan of Government that will bring roads, schools, water and electricity to the millions of country dwellers who have suffered governmental neglect for the past two hundred years. Second, his administration plans to make of Haiti, with the support of its Diaspora and the international community, a vast construction site, building ports, airports, telecommunications, and dams, all the infrastructures, which are needed to modernize the countrys economy and basic way of life. Thirdly, a Borgella administration will strive to overthrow the culture of corruption and chronic lack of public spirit in Haiti in order to bring to the population much needed services in the areas of security, education, health, agriculture, housing, tourism, and art promotion. As President, Dr. Borgella will boost the Haitian budget through innovative features such as his Debt Swapping for Nature proposal to rebuild the ravaged environment and the Millennium Challenge Grant to combat corruption and bring in good governance so as to foster democracy, peace, and prosperity in our country. As candidate, Dr. Borgella says, A country with scenic mountain vistas that has been compared to Vail, Colorado, Bali, Indonesia, and Spain, Haiti will regain its splendor of the past. It can count on a Diaspora ready to help, a diligent and willing work force, and a nation with a strong cultural identity. Haiti will once again be the Pearl of the Antilles. For more information about Dr. Borgella, OLAHHs vision and Plan of Government in French and/or English, please visit www.olahh.org .
