In response to G Simon.
When one looks at the black people in the Americas, one often wonders why the blacks of Haiti seem to fall at the bottom of social ladder.
First of all, it is a known fact that the other black people of the Caribbean show great disdain for the black haitian, for example in the USA, the greatest insult one black kid could give to another was to call him Haitian, why? Because they eat dogs.
A balck Haitian youth once committed suicide because his black American girlfriend left him when she found out he was Haitian; Bahamians repatriated boat loads of Haitians headed towards their coasts with great disdain insulting them calling them "Congo" which meant the lowest of the low. In the Dominican Republic, a black Dominican looks at a black Haitian as if he is putting him to shame and prefers to call himself "indio de la tierra" meaning "indian of the land" due to the great shame and disdain he feels for sharing the same land as his black neighbor.
