U.S. congratulates Haiti's Preval for election win
WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. President George W. Bush called the newly-elected Haitian president Rene Preval on Thursday to congratulate him on his election victory, the White House said in a statement.
"The President spoke with Haitian president-elect Preval to congratulate him on his election victory and to express our continuing interest in the democratic and economic success of Haiti," the statement said.
"The two also briefly discussed cooperating in Haiti's economic development and the fight against the illegal drug trade," the statement added.
Preval was declared winner of Haiti's presidential election on Feb. 16. Enditem
